Great White Shark
Tess has decided she’s OK with the Tinkerbell costume except for the wings, which are totally the best part are you kidding me??!?  She still thinks the wings are butterfly wings, and wrinkles her nose up in disgust every time I try to put them on her.  There has been no more screaming, but several very calm declarations of, “No butterfly me.  NO.”  All while pointing an...

Sweet
We attended an amazing birthday party over the weekend.  It was held at Books and Cookies in Santa Monica, and the kids got to play games, read stories, decorate their own magic wands, and decorate cookies.  Gabe showed an amazing amount of restraint on his cookie, using only a tasteful amount of pink frosting and miscellaneous decoration.  In contrast, some of the other party guests piled on so...

Air
About three weeks ago Tess learned a new trick: she can jump off of the ground.  Before she would just bend her knees and then straighten them really fast, without ever leaving terra firma.  But now she can get about an inch of height.  It’s very impressive.  And so she jumps all the time, quite pleased with herself.  Actual mid-air shot courtesy of Auntie Mandy. I love how she will jump...

Business Travel is So Glamorous
I’m on a business trip.  Woo.  The car service came and picked me up at 5:45 a.m. this morning.  Yay for car service, but boo for 5:45 a.m.  Plus I did that stressed-out bad sleeping thing where I was so afraid I would sleep through my alarm that I woke up about once an hour to stare at the clock, JUST IN CASE.  I finally gave up at 4:45 a.m. and just got up and made coffee and took a...

Have you ever wondered what happens if you feed babies ice cream?  THIS is what happens.  They get very speedy and jump around a lot like crazy people.  It’s pretty awesome.

You want to talk about a great vacation? Part 2
All right, where were we?  I believe we left off with general playing-around-the-house pictures.  Let’s continue after the jump. Playing in the water fountain in the backyard Swimming in the pool with mommy (who is looking kind of exhausted, let’s be honest) And finally, the Great-Grand Family Portrait (minus my mom, who kindly offered to take these pictures because none of...

You want to talk about a great vacation? Part 1
OK, let’s talk.  As previously reported, I took the kids to Arizona for four days with my mom to visit my grandparents.  It was the best time I have had in a long while, and I can tell you for certain that my children concur with that assessment.  Lots of pictures (accompanied by my oh-so-witty commentary) after the jump. Our first major activity was a visit to the McCormick-Stillman...

Say Cheese
These days, if you ask Tess to smile, she squeezes up her face in the most ridiculous fake grin ever, closing her eyes and showing all her teeth.  Here’s a visual aid (taken on the shuttle bus to the Horse Show last weekend): And yet another (taken Tuesday night during daddy/daughter bonding time while Gabe and I were having adventures at Disneyland): She is comedy gold.  And actually...

Happiest Place
A full life is making every day memorable. The one with the most memorable days wins. It is not about toys but experiences. - Nolan Bushnell, founder of Atari Yesterday I took the day off work and took my son to Disneyland.  And from morning until evening, he had this look on his face: He got to pick out one special souvenir, and he chose a set of four Star Wars guys from Tomorrowland. ...

Giddy Up!
On Sunday we attend the Portuguese Bend National Horse Show, where Gabe competed in the Stick Horse Class.  The Stick Horse Class is really a sight to see: it involves dozens of 3- to 7-year-olds galloping around a beautiful, professional-caliber jumping course on toy stick horses.  A pack of about 6 kids got off-course and had to be herded back onto the right path.  It was amazing.  And at the...

Two Years Ago Today
Last night at bedtime Gabe asked me to lay down with him in bed for a minute to “help me get sleepy, Mommy.”  Of course I obliged.  He is such a big guy these days, but at moments like that one where he is curled up in bed clutching his lion lovey, he seems so little, and I remember that he used to be a baby, just such a short while ago.  Just a few days ago, it seems. Like when...

Costume
Last night Tess’ Halloween costume arrived in the mail.  I sort of hate to spoil the surprise, but she’s going to be Tinkerbell.  I hope.  I was so excited about the costume that I had her try it on immediately.  She initially seemed amenable to the plan and let me put the little green dress on, but as soon as I fastened the dress in the back and attached her wings, she FREAKED OUT. ...

Weekend In Review
I used to get sick only rarely.  I think, though, that two kids in daycare is more than my immune system can handle, because it seems that I wind up catching every single bug being passed around the Tod A classroom and the Lions classroom.  So I spent my labor day weekend: (i) visiting Urgent Care to beg for antibiotics (granted instantly upon the diagnosis of laryngitis and strep throat with a...

Random Thought Thursday
Tess’ new favorite activity is shoving a book into my hands, unceremoniously plopping down into my lap, and crying, “Read it me, Mommy!” Tess is now 19 months old, but I persist in telling people she is 18 months old.  Do you think if I keep saying it she will agree to stop aging and stay little for me?  Every day on our way home we pass a poster for the new...
