Little Miss Sunshine
Did you ever have a weekend that was so good, it made you feel happy all the way down to your toes?  We had that kind of weekend.  Tess’ small but delightful Little Miss Sunshine birthday party was an amazing success.  She also had her first swimming lesson, and we took away the pacifier with far less pain and drama than anticipated. On the day of the party, the bounce house was set up in...

(Not So) Teeny Tiny Tessa Turns Two!
All right everyone, get ready for a barrage of birthday pictures! Here’s the scene, pre-unwrapping-and-destruction.  Does it look awfully dark to be opening presents?  That’s because IT WAS.  Both kids were up and ready to go at 5:30 a.m.  Birthdays come early at our house, apparently.  First present?  Cowboy boots!!  You will note that the birthday girl is wearing big brother...

Well Baby
Tessa’s birthday celebration yesterday was epic.  Pictures coming tomorrow! Today we had her 2-Year Well Baby visit, which is actually called a “Well Child” visit since she is NOT A BABY ANYMORE.  This literally almost made me cry when the nurse corrected me. Anyhow, as you might expect, Tess is fabulous.  Here are the stats: Height: 34 inches, 56th percentile Weight: 26...

Feeling the Force
We were feeling well-rested and reasonably brave this weekend, so we decided to head to the Star Wars exhibit at the Discovery Science Cube.  Things started off auspiciously, with Gabe cheerfully agreeing to pose for this photo with none other than Darth Vader, coolest guy in the galaxy: …and then we got inside, into the craziest crowd I have ever seen.  (And I’ve spent some time...

Sleepless (Yet Again)
Gabe is back to not sleeping so well.  The good news is he’s not getting up at 1:00 a.m. all the time like he used to.  The bad news is he’s up for good at around 5:00 a.m. most mornings.  5:00 a.m. is unacceptable to his father and me.  It is still FULL DARK at 5:00 a.m.  So we’re now back on the plan where, if he comes into our room before 6:00 a.m., he has to give us one of...

Turkey
Last night as Matt and I were making dinner, we opened every single drawer in our kitchen in a hunt for the cheese grater.  (It turned up in a high cupboard among the fancy vases.  Because we are so very organized.)  Anyhow, opening “every single drawer” in our kitchen includes opening that one drawer that I never open in front of the children because within it I have stashed all kinds...

OK, OK, we know Christmas is over but Tess is still really into Jingle Bells.  Please enjoy the video of her singing. (Well, sort of singing.) In other news, we had their parent-teacher conferences this week.  Gabe’s was excellent; he is a model preschooler.  His favorite activities include playing on the climbing structure and engaging in dramatic play.  He and his buddy Lucas pretend to...

Workforce
Have I mentioned that the kids seem to be surprisingly good at manual labor?  (Yes friends, they have skills beyond playing tailgating games and consuming vast amounts of Annie’s Cheddar Bunny crackers!)  They helped me wash my car over the weekend.  Actually Tess spent a fair amount of time washing her own body with the soapy water, but since they use Dawn to clean off animals caught in oil...

Sunday Afternoon in the Backyard
Yesterday we let the kids stay in their pajamas all day.  It was that kind of a day, if you know what I mean.  We couldn’t be bothered to get the kids dressed in real clothes; we were too busy building LEGO castles, baking cupcakes with greenish-bluish icing, pretending to be astronauts, and playing in the backyard. Speaking of which, it turns out my kids are really good at cornhole. ...

New Year's Eve Mayhem
I cannot possibly sum up the chaos that was our annual Greenwich Mean Time New Year’s Eve Party (so titled because we try to do the countdown at about 8:00 p.m. so all the wee folk can go home to bed; we send the parents home with cupcakes and splits of champagne).   I am not sure exactly what went wrong or where I lost the thread, but the entire party - which consisted of only 9 children...
