Bedtime Stories
We have amended our longstanding bedtime ritual to allow Tessa to stay up for one bedtime story with Gabe.  She has gotten into the habit of actually getting into bed with him, and now every night they cuddle up together to listen to Knuffle Bunny or Goodnight Moon or Brownie Groundhog and the February Fox.  I love it. Almost every night, either Tess asks to sleep in Gabe’s bed, or Gabe...

Classic
This is my rocking horse from when I was a toddler.  Tessa cannot get enough of it.  She rocks so hard she can propel herself across the floor.  (Try to ignore the approximately 1,832 action figures strewn across the background landscape please.) Bonus points to my mom for saving all these cool toys from my and my brother’s youth.  Also bonus points to my dad for tolerating a garage...

Puppy Love
Guess who we went to see on Saturday? We did not actually acquire one of these puppies, but I have to be honest, we are seriously considering it.  Gabe is desperate for one.  And you know I am a total sucker.

Why It's Great to Have a Boy
Last night after tucking Gabe into bed, I laid down and cuddled up to him for a few minutes.  This is standard procedure; he likes to have either Matt or me lay with him for a bit while he gets sleepy.  He was not terribly sleepy, though, and he declared in a wide-awake voice, “Daddy’s going to get me some pirate pretzels!”  (Meaning a particular brand of pretzels with a pirate...

Happy Happy
A very Happy Birthday to my Dad, who is not only a great dad, but the most excellent GrandBob ever.  We love you so much.

Recently the kids have been spending a lot of time in their Halloween costumes.  Because, why not?

Southern Living
I spent a long weekend in Atlanta with one of my best friends.  Lots of story telling, laughing, wine drinking, club soccer, sightseeing, and happiness was involved.  It was wonderful.  I came back to an overflowing inbox, a broken furnace, and my favorite three people ever.  More tomorrow when I have my act together a little bit better!

Gabe is a Model, Again
Gabe has been picky about his clothes since he was a toddler.  Now he’s upped the ante to being extremely picky about his clothes, plus he’s into accessories too.  Yesterday morning he insisted on wearing his belt, jean jacket, and cowboy boots, and when Matt suggested we bring some sneakers to leave in his cubby just in case he wanted to change later on, he cried indignantly,...

Gabe's a Model
He insisted on wearing his Polo shirt this morning (“Just like GrandBob’s!”) along with his cowboy boots, so he’s looking pretty snazzy for preschool today.

The Guys
On Sunday we went to a 4th birthday party for one of Gabe’s very best buddies, the amazing L.  We have known L since he was an infant, and it kind of astonishes me that now he’s 4.  I still tend to picture him as a little baby crawling up to me and cheerfully making the sign for “milk” in an attempt to get me to sneak him a bottle.  Gabe and L have remained tight since...

I just love this.  Last night we sang our way through dinner.  Even though no broccoli was consumed (despite my best efforts and copious amounts of butter), it was unquestionably a successful meal.

The actual lyrics to the song he’s singing are: “All the other kids with the pumped-up kicks/you better run, better run/faster than my bullet.”  Yikes.  This leads me to three conclusions: We need to be WAY more careful about what we say/play on the radio/watch on TV in front of this kid, because he just absorbs it all like a SPONGE; Given that he didn’t get the lyrics...

Conversations From This Morning
Gabe, to me, as I was getting ready for work: “Mommy, you look so beautiful in that dress!” Tess, to me, as I was eating breakfast: “Mommy, your hair is grey!” So guess which child is my favorite today? (Just kidding, I still love them both the same.  For the most part.)

Hooray Sunday
Happy Monday, friends!  You know what I did on Sunday?  I SLEPT IN.  My parents took the kids for an overnight sleepover on Saturday, which meant Matt and I slept in until after 8:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.  Then we got up to discover that the sun had fully risen and it was not even a little bit dark outside.  Next we drank coffee and read every single section of the newspaper.  It was like some...

A Jedi Joined Me for Breakfast This Morning
Sorry for my absence, friends.  Since our family seems to have an unwritten rule that a minimum of one person be on antibiotics at all times, it was my turn to be sick.  I’ve been down with an ear infection and bronchitis.  Side note: I didn’t even know it was possible for adults to get ear infections.  They hurt and they’re super annoying.  Plus I still can’t hear very...
